Volounteering

Information

On Sunday, September 25, 2011, more than 20,000 athletes, runners and  walkers, will be assisted by a team of over 2,000 dedicated volunteers, and medical staff who support, secure, and cheer on,  the flow of race day activities and events.Recruiting volunteers is essential for this year's event  to run smoothly. Volunteers from previous years are again welcome to join us and complete the application form, that you received previously.

You will need to be available for about  six (6) hours on the day of the event and about one (1) hour before the event - to go over volunteer orientation and to meet your team leader and fellow volunteers. No experience is necessary, (unless with the medical team) but bring along your  team spirit  and enthusiasm! We will try to be flexible and accomodate all volunteer requests and work positions/ preferences, and work with the needs, physical limitations, and age of the volunteer. We want this to be a mutually fulfilling and beneficial experience for all involved. The athletes and I thank you!!   Register now:  (450)  679-4928

We offer our volunteers:

The opportunity to be part of a unique event, and a chance to be in the "heat of the action" amidst world class athletes from around the world, and to work with a dynamic team. The Marathon Oasis de Montréal will offer you an exclusive volunteer T-shirt, and the crew will be provided a light box lunch as well. As a final gesture of grandeur, prepare to celebrate the day's success, with your other friends at the Volunteer Party for a "4 to 6" at the Place Oasis, just a few feet from the official finish line in the Olympic Stadium. A general information session will take place a few weeks before the event (details to be confirmed) .

Volunteer Positions:

On race day, volunteer positions are varied, but will mostly consist of these strategic locations-at the start line, on the course, or at the finish area of the different events. Early morning positions are available, with the possibility of indoor or outdoor.

  • Start Lines: There are various start lines for the day's races - upon the Jacques-Cartier Bridge (Pont Jacques Cartier), near the Botanical Gardens (Jardin Botanique) or Maisonneuve Park (parc Maisonneuve) . Volunteers may be stationed there depending on the essentials of the course. Volunteers co-ordinate and direct the runners, walkers, cyclists to assure the starts are on time-at all events, for this years' edition and the mass start upon the Bridge Jacques-Cartier. There are also positions at the baggage check (bag depot) before the athletes start the race, and volunteer options will be outlined at the Volunteer Information night.
  • On the Course : Volunteers have a great opportunty to support and cheer on the athletes as they make their journey towards the Parc Maisonneuve. The volunteers' presence at the water and sport drink stations, fruits and sponge tables, provide the necessary motivation to complete the event with personal success. Securing an event such as this , is no easy task-as we work in collaboration with the Service de la Police de la Ville de Montreal, to supervise and close some streets. As well, many of the water stops along the course are near public transport, or the METRO subway lines, so all is easily accessible.
  •  At the Finish Line: The principle activities here is to guide and inform the athletes, and their respective family and community members about all the activities at the arrival. Athletes may be looking for the recovery/refreshment food area, or the bag pickup booth, or looking for family and friends in the family zone (A-Z) . Some may be looking for stray or lost children or those playing in the kid's zones-where we stress safety and security FIRST. We also must keep the athlete finish line area for ATHLETES ONLY. This area is reserved for the athlete only, and we cannot allow non-authorised persons from entering this zone. Volunteers are also required in the food recovery/refreshment zone, to allow priority access to the athlete who needs quick access to replace their nutritional needs after the marathon.
